Wilfrid Hadfield died from wounds on 10th September, 1914, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast, but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 2nd South Lancashire battalion was part of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division, that had been involved in the opening battles of the war at Mons and Le Cateau in August, 1914 and had then retreated back to the River Marne with the rest of the BEF. |
